We are a husband and wife duo starting this company. We are coming at it from completely different angles. I am an engineer by trade who spent two decades in a big MNC working on designing, building, and selling high-tech products and managing a service business. My wife on the other hand is an accounting and business major who has worked with small businesses and the last 9 years specifically working for a small business that handled international pet relocation.

During covid, as we all worked from home, I had an opportunity to see my wife in action up close. She was getting 5-star Google reviews for the service she was providing. But I could see her days and nights - weekdays and weekends were filled with stress. There were always some emergencies and surprises that she had to react to, to make sure the customer was served. As I looked up close at the systems and processes she was using to do her job, I felt there had to be a better and smarter way to do things and that is how this business was born.
 

Pet owners are worried when their pets travel on their own thousands of miles until they arrive home safely. Can you imagine having your kids travel from the US to Australia without an accompanying adult?! it is the same feeling. They not only want to know where their fur baby is at any point in time but also how they are doing. Most pet shipping companies provide only tracking provided by the airlines - that is only a small part of the journey and does not say how they are doing.

Secondly, you don't need to be a pet owner to deliver exceptional service. My wife is not a pet owner, but she is a mom to two young boys and she can empathize with pet parents. What makes her provide exceptional service to her customers is her attention to detail, her ability to think ahead and anticipate issues, and her problem-solving skills when problems do arise. The outdated systems and processes used by the business and industry don't provide much help. Can you go back in time when we drove long-distance with only a paper map and printed directions and there was no Google maps/GPS to recalculate directions? That is exactly where the cargo industry is today. That is why there is no Expedia/Travelocity where you could self-serve.

We want to build a smart system that makes international pet transportation planning less stressful for everyone and smarter at handling all kinds of exceptions that will eventually arise.

Who we are

We are a husband and wife duo. Aashima developed deep expertise working for a small international pet shipping company for 9 years. Swapnil on the other hand spent two decades in a large MNC working on designing, building, and selling high-tech products and leading a global service business. During covid, we saw each other in action up close. We realized that the 5-star service Aashima was providing came at a cost - her days and nights - weekdays and weekends were filled with stress. There were always some emergencies and surprises that she had to react to, to make sure the customer was served. As we reflected on the systems and processes used, we felt that there was a need for a better and smarter way to do things and that is how this business was born

What is guiding us

Two unique insights are guiding the development of the SMART system. First, pet parents not only want to know where their baby is at any point in time but also how they are doing. Most pet shipping companies provide tracking provided by the airline, but the flight is only a small part of the total journey and does not say how the baby is doing. No wonder pet parents get worried when their pets travel on their own thousands of miles on their own in the cargo hold. Secondly, one need not be a pet owner to deliver exceptional service. Aashima is not a pet owner, but she is a mom to two young boys and she can empathize with pet parents. What makes her provide exceptional service to her customers is her attention to detail, her ability to think ahead and anticipate issues, and her problem-solving skills when problems do arise. We are building systems that can take into account the minutest details, anticipate issues before they happen, and when the issues do arise, propose a plan B with no panic. Metaphorically, the international air transportation industry needs to transition to GPS navigation system versus using printed maps/directions. We want to play a big part in that digital transformation of the international pet shipping industry.
